The spectacular Monaro High Country is home to some of Australia's most stunning private gardens, situated on historic merino sheep and cattle stations.
A group of rural property owners who are passionate about their gardens and proud of their historical homesteads formed to create the Private Gardens of the Monaro.
The gardens are among the finest of the
Monaro and have been held in the families for many generations. Private Gardens of the Monaro offers exclusive tailor-made day tours for
groups that include morning tea, lunch, afternoon tea and refreshments.
All the gardens are located on historic pastoral properties where sheep and cattle graze over the expansive Monaro plains.
At altitudes of around 1,000m, the gardens are 'cold climate' with four distinct seasons giving fabulous autumn colour, spring flowering bulbs and blossoms, leafy summer greenery and cold winters with frosty mornings and occasionally snowy days.
Expert design is a feature of the private gardens and the homesteads. One garden was recently renovated under the guidance of renowned garden designer Paul Bangay and one of the homesteads was designed by award-winning architect Professor Leslie Wilkinson.
The owners enjoy sharing their
gardens with those who have an interest in spectacular landscapes and beautiful
gardens around historic homes. These places are the essence of Australian
pastoral history and life.
Access to the gardens is by appointment only and limited to just a few visits each year. Please contact us directly to enquire or to book a tour.
