Would you love to explore and experience our Aboriginal, pioneering heritage and natural environment?
Kosciuszko is one of Australia’s great national parks. The park encompasses Mt Kosciuszko (the highest mountain in Australia at 2,228m), the headwaters of the famous Snowy River, spectacular caves, limestone gorges, stunning snow country with snow gum woodlands and extensive treeless plains dotted with historic pioneer huts.
An ancient landscape, these mountains are a vital part of Aboriginal history and ongoing cultural practices. The 690,000ha of natural landscapes, including most of Australia’s snow covered areas, were originally set aside in 1944 as Kosciuszko State Park to conserve its natural and cultural values. In 1967 it became a National Park.
Kosciuszko National Park is an area of enormous natural diversity with many recreational opportunities. Bushwalking, mountain bike riding, picnicking, fishing, caving, car touring, canoeing, horse riding, camping and cross country skiing are just some of the activities you can enjoy in this unique environment.
